'Scotland Yard Versus his Government'
Is this a case of complete Civilisation where no one is above the law. Should this be correct, then the African countries have still got Kilometres to learn about democracy.
Tony Blair might be the Prime Minister of Great Britain, yet he is set to be queried by the Law enforcement arm of the Country. My imagination is running wild here. My immediate thoughts have supersonically taken me to Zimbabwe, an African country under the rulership of an 82 year old President.Believe it or not Robert Mugabe has being in power for 26 years, yes 26 years (since 1980, could my Mathematics be wrong?.And yet, Tony Blair who has merely done 9 years is being urged to step down, and if he does not, I bet you, an incident will mysteriously occur that will legally speed up his departure from No 10 Downing street.
The point I am making is this, the main difference between the so called 1st World and 3rd World status is in the example cited.
Who in his right senses in Zimbabwe dare bring the 82 year Octogenarian President to question?
Then comes Africa's saviour, Nigeria's President Olusegun Obasanjo. Inspite of what others say, I believe credit ought to be given to the man. He is heading his Country in the direction of the 1st World status with the setting up of the some what controversial (Nigerians are alien to such a body)commission popularly reffered to as EFCC. It simply stands for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
This commission headed by the Charismatic 46 year old Lawyer and ex-Police officer Mal Nuhu Ribadu, has amongst many arrests, handcuffed a sitting Governor of a state and a Police commissioner as well as arrested numerous politicians, corrupt Billionaires and public servants. This is no big deal to the 1st World. I can assure you that, for some reasons (I don't know why) IT IS A VERY BIG DEAL or the 3rd World.
I think there is hope for Africa!!!
